Attended U of H, Internship as a civilian at Carswell AFB, Ft.W, '81 undergrad BS degree from NTSU/UNT, was working on Masters in Aging when sidetracked by cancer. Enjoyed working as weekly newspaper photog, editing on a Mac ('87), was office gorilla (collections).
Long-time volunteer w/ scouts, schools, & the elderly.
Organic gardener, small home registered wildlife sanctuary (critters: opossums under the hot tub, wild rabbits, two deer in front yard, one coyote in the street, one fox in the street, one raccoon in the yard, various garden snakes, squirrels, birds, lizards large and small. Plus at one time we had 12 animals as pets, 6 dogs and six cats, all spayed, neutered & housebroken. Now I have one dog and two cats that RV with me.)

I spoke to PTA and other large groups for years at the behest of our County Health Dept. physician, Dr. Alverez M.D., on the topic of hyperactivity and the Feingold diet by Ben Feingold, M.D./ Kaiser Permanente, California. It involved cooking like a pioneer to eliminate additives & salicylates from the diet. I didn't mind because it worked like a dream until age 13 or so when compliance went out the window & life as we knew it ended. But until 13, it was a wonder! Email me if you have questions: barb.nightowlcreations@gmail.com
I can give you tips to help the younger child; makes a big difference.

Love RV camping, (RoadTrips!), 1800 mi in fall of '15, putting recreation info to good use.

With Vietnam vet T. Mark Vernon from '91, married in '99, we flew to Hawaii & Canada, drove to Mexico. Have been all over much of U.S.
I was widowed in 2013. Cancer.

Am working on large yard, has 52 lg. Postoaks. Am felling a few hackberry & elm trees & much bamboo, learning to roof bbq shack & shed. Enjoy walking my dog. Have lived in North Texas since '75, here since '82. Happy almost anywhere; I keep busy.

School Story

Mrs. Bingham's AP English class took a survey to find out who owned the most shoes in her class.
I won.
I was not spoiled. My parents bought me two pair of shoes each year, the rest I babysat for the money to pay for them. Also for my school clothes each year as we were not wealthy; my dad worked at Coleman 37 years and mom was an R.N.
My red cord PEP Club shoes (go Redskins!!!) finally wore out about 5 years ago. As long as you don't mind your pinky toe sticking out from each side, they were in really good shape!
Is Butch still in the hall?

Myrna Carlson Bain!!! So happy you joined. I remember when we had sleepovers and ran around with pink stuff on our faces! Do you remember what year Mark and I met you and Gerald in Wichita? We were staying at Momgrets, my Other Mother in Peck back then but I don't remember when it was. ???
Happy early Birthday, just in case I'm out of Internet range by then.
Hugs, Barb

Bob was a good friend during high school. I never met his family but still remember his sister was also named Barbara. I helped him run his paper route, then we would go canoeing. He was a true gentleman, shy but brilliant. We had a lot of conversations about the cosmos; he would have LOVED Startalk!

Carol, if the Diane Lawrence you asked about ever lived in Denton Texas and worked out of the maps department at UNT, then I knew her awhile in the 70's, purchased my county maps from her when I worked as a Realtor. I know someone I can ask about her to check for you. I am in Denton so if you ever plan to go up this way, give me a call and I can meet you. 940.391.2413 app messing up, hope this gets there.

David Landrum, your comment on Marg's page had jumped & I didn't see it until I sent a note to Cheryl...then it popped up. And no, being a friend to Marg & Ronnie was really easy.

May 08, 2017 at 8:33 PM

Cheryl, I did not know that! I am so glad Marg had someone that she knew over there! All of her impairment was physical, she did not have a single dead brain cell in her body and was a total hoot to spend time with. The way things came together, she was able to leave and have a real life for several years! I had visited her in the nursing home and before that, at her mother's house and was tickled to death that she got to move in with Ron. At first I was worried that he might not be a good person but you probably knew him. He also worked there. He was a bit down on his luck but he got his life in order and was the best thing in the world to happen to her. It went both ways. I was so happy for both of them; rides in the van, shopping, their own house & yard, indoor pets to visit and the ability to have your own food supply made all the difference in the world for both of them. They both had a great sense of humor and I was really happy that I got to share a large part of their lives with them. Our moms were both nurses and so was Marg. I have volunteered in nursing homes for years plus had cancer and have lost a lot of loved ones so she knew she could talk 'serious and medical' with me if need be, scattered in between the horrible jokes, food prep and the playing with animals. I always took my lg.dog to visit their lg.dog and their cat so a good time was had by all. (excuse typos, text is jumping) Hope to make it next yr, FINALLY one in the cool. ;)Barb
