Shirley Ford Laughary

We decided to go into the ministry shortly after getting married. Been a minister's wife since 1964.
Lived in Wichita, Belle Plaine and Topeka, KS; Oklahoma City, Apache, Woodward, Edmond, Tulsa, and Jones, OK; Denver, CO; Harrisonville and West Plains, MO; Wausau, WI; and Seaside, CA.
I have accompanied my husband doing mission work and I taught women in Ukraine, Peru, and Panama.
We have 10 grandchildten and 1 gt grandson.
I retired from the federal government in 2011.

Our daughter-in-law passed away on Aug 31, 2018. She had a heartplant when she was 19 and lived to be 33. She was a strong promoter of organ donation and many of our family have signed up to do that. 22 people have benefited from our donations, 2 cornea transplants and 28 tissue. Attended Linwood Grade school in Wichita thru the 4th grade. Then went to Bridgeport Elementary in Wichita thru the 8th grade. Attended Pleasant Valley Jr High in 9th grade. Went to north for my Sophomore and Senior years, but had to attend my Junior year at the new Wichita Heights High School. I was allowed to transfer back to my favorite school, North, for my Senior year because we were getting married.
I married Don Laughary (class of 1961) on 11/9/1962. I took classes at Tulsa Junior College when we lived in Tulsa.

My husband was a senior at North and I was a sophomore. We had started dating when I was a freshman at Pleasant Valley. We had Basic Business together with Mrs. Olson. (I think that was her name.) We sat across from each other. One morning he passed me a note, but as I returned it to him she saw me and called me out in class. 58 years later he still teases me about it.

Also, we got married in November of my Senior year. Don was off work for Veterans Day on Monday so I went to see the counselor to get permission to be out of school on Monday also. She couldn't believe I was coming to school on Friday and getting married that night. After looking at my record she saw I had not missed a day and had good grades. She then told me I was to take off on Friday and Monday, both as excused absences.
