David Quick

David Lee Quick, 78, of Wichita, died on Monday, April 1, 2024.

David was the son of Harold and Christine Quick. He graduated from Wichita North High School in 1963 and was active in the Theater Department while attending Friends University.

Dave, as his nearest and dearest called him, was an Eagle Scout who would go on to use those life skills later in his big, amazing life. As a Conscious Objector during the Vietnam War, Dave served the country in a non-combat role.

In 1968, Dave moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to attend the Fleisher Art Memorial School of The Philadelphia Museum of Art and won its annual Best Artist of The Year Award in both 1969 and 1970. In 1973, Dave became an Artist-In-Residence at the Ivy League’s University of Pennsylvania. During his time in Philadelphia, he also taught in the Philadelphia Quaker Schools including Penn Charter Academy, the second oldest prep school in the country, founded by William Penn in 1689.

Dave returned to Wichita in 1991 and taught as an Adjunct Professor of Art History at Wichita State University and Friends University. Dave was a prominent member of the Wichita Arts scene. He used his photography skills to capture many important cultural events including the Tallgrass Film Festival, The Wichita River Festival and the Wichita North End Urban Arts Festival.

Dave’s art was featured in many prominent shows and galleries around the country over his 55-year career. A large part of Dave’s life’s work is held in the archives at Wichita State University and Washburn University.

He is survived by his brother Ed Quick, nephews Andy Quick and Steve Quick, niece Vanessa Quick, his former wife Jennifer Quick, his beloved cats, “The Fabulous Twister Twins” (Little Lucky and Frankie Blue Eyes), a large “chosen family” and many dear friends. He is preceded in death by his parents.

Services are planned and will be announced at a later date by Affordable Cremations Plus, Wichita, Kansas.
