'Say Shiva for Me:'   A Jewish custom of remembering and celebrating the life of a friend.......

My dear friend Dale. I want it to be known that you died in a car accident in July of 1966. I was on my honeymoon when I learned of your death.  You were a great friend to me till the time of your death. I remember you so well. Without a doubt the most talented drummer I have ever heard.

Dale attended John Brown University in Arkansas and I attended Evangel University in Spfg. Mo. It always caused quite an stir when you would drive on my campus in your great big Hearst you drove to cart around you drums. We had a lot of fun with that ol car! With our colleges only 2 hours apart you would come visit often. We were great friends and shared the joys and sorrows of your girlfriends and my boyfriends. We had a long history of Youth for Christ every Saturday night there in Wichita from 7th grade on. When I became a twirler at North High School, I had to play an instrument in the band and you taught me everything I knew, enough to get by, about how to play a drum. I was actually pretty terrible but the teacher was the only one who really knew how bad I was, well except for you and Gilbert Moreno.  Both of you, being great drummers, knew how bad I was but neither of you ever said a word but I could hear your snickers. I thought it was funny too. I mean, who gets a "c" in band???. Thank you for all your help. I was just happy to give you a few chuckles as long as it allowed me to be a twirler.

As I understand,  Dale was traveling and performing with his band that summer of 1966. I believe the band and drums were in that big Hearst when they had a head on collision with a big semi. Most of the young men died that day. It broke my heart.

I loved you my friend and so thankful we shared the same path for a moment in time. Your sister Francine notified me when I returned from my honeymoon.  I remember...always will.  We were real buddies!  You had just a geat laughter and sense of humor!

Thanks for the memories my friend
